A very big THANK YOU.... Found My paternal family !!!!!
Meet my father:
.
|
Anthony was born in New York City in 1917 to Charles and Lena (not sure of her name) who had immigrated from Sicily to New York at the beginning of the 1900's. |
|
My father's father died in 1943 and his mother in 1945, he did not talk about them to us, which is why I do not know much about his family. The only paternal relatives we do know are two sisters, Grace and Lena, also an Aunt Mary who was married to Uncle Lou. Which of them was his direct relative I do not know. We only knew about Lena and Mary because they came to Miami and visited us. We had visited with Grace when we took a road trip from the Bronx to Niagara Falls and stayed with her two nights, on their farm someplace in upper state New York.
Anthony served in the US Coast Guard during WWII and received the Silver Star for gallantry, along with other medals. He married Mary Eileen Murray in 1942 in Cape May N.J, her father at the time was my fathers commanding officer. After leaving the Coast Guard he worked with Eastern Airlines, which has since closed, out of New York city then transferred to Hialeah, Florida.
You can now see why, I don't know much about my paternal background!
In 1967 my father left my mother and since then we have not heard from him nor had any information about him. If you might know anything, I'd love to hear about it, I do not wish to invade his privacy but would like to know if he is still alive and how he is doing. He would be 85 years old in 2002.
I found the following information, BUT until I can get some sort of confirmation, I can not accept this as proof of my fathers death.

Meet my brothers:
.
|
Thomas Anthony was born in N.Y. city and was a quiet stay at home type man and confirmed bachelor. He had hoped to get into the aviation field but had a health difficulty that prevented him from doing so. 1943- 1986 |
|
Tom eventually became a salesman in charge of several cities in Illinois. He and my mother shared a home in Champaign, IL, he suffered a heart attack at 39, and when he returned to work, I suggested to him that with his second chance in life that he do something "new".
The confirmed bachelor fell in love, finally! At 42 he married but sadly, just three months later he suffered another heart attack and passed away.

Charles Ronald born in New York city, 1947, was more the rebellious child and is a second time bachelor. He works in the field of computers (he's the type that can make one stand up and dance) and lives in Virginia, he hopes to retire soon as a beach bum..... |

A very big THANK YOU....
After 3 1/2 years of searching the internet, creating two web sites and keeping records for each Gerbino name I found, I've finally
Found ----- a link to my Gerbino relatives!!!!
In the guest book of 'My Gerbino Search' I received a message from someone claiming to be my first cousin. After several emails and more information, it's true, a first cousin was able to contact me and I'm learning about my background and best of all my cousin and my sister and I are building a relationship.
I have to offer a very big THANK YOU to Nancy Gerbino of NY for all of her help with census pages and passenger ship manifests.
After confirmation of my grand mothers name, these documents have provided links to my Gerbino and Italian heritage. I found my great grand parrents, grand parrents and, I have also learned that I have/ had 8 aunts and uncles and over 12 first cousins!!!
My 3 1/2 years of internet searching and web site work (lots of it, believe me!) has produced results for my sister and I and we couldn't be happier!
I hope that my two web sites, Gerbinos On The Web and My Gerbino Search will also help others to find lost family and bring their backgrounds to light!!
Thank you so very much to all of you, that helped make my discovery possible!!!!!
