   After doing a simple search for the name Gerbino, it was clear that the internet could help me find my paternal relatives, I was able to find listings with email addresses and wrote to each of them, I was fortunate to get many replies with some information about their side of the Gerbino clan.

Well, first off, the Gerbino coat of arms. That dates back to the end of the war for unification of Italy - my great  grandfather fought with Garibaldi, and was granted that coat of arms by Vittorio Emenuele II at the end of the war. He was also awarded a medal which I still have (came down through my grandfather Cesare, to my father Vincent, then me).
I would suspect that the grant took place between October 1860 (when Garibaldi handed over Sicily and Naples to VE II), and 1862 (when Garibaldi attempted to conquer the Papal States and was intercepted by the Italian government).
