Arabic, a simple lesson
.
Here is a beginners guide to reading and writing.
..
I have lived
in Saudi since 1965 and through my husbands family have learned the Negdi dialect very well with a pretty good
vocabulary, but sadly I only read at a second grade level. An example....
One character might be used with dots or dashes to form a letter such as
This character with a dot under it
is 'ba', make two dots over it
and it becomes 'ta' with three dots over it
will make it 'tha'.
There are several Arabic letters that never connect after it, but it can connect from previous letters and this will break the script of a word.
or 'alif', pronounced 'aa' is one of these letters.
Keep in mind that Arabic is read from the right to the left.
If you put the
and
together, you have
'baa', write it twice
and you have 'baba', or father.
The character
is 'meim' and pronounced 'ma', is among several Arabic letters that you use only the beginning part of the letter when writing at the beginning or in the middle of a word, changing it to
.
Connect the
to the
and you have
'maa', write it twice
and you have mama (needs no translation)!
Congratulations! you have read your first Arabic!!
